our success story
Challenger Sports League, which began with a baseball game the summer of 2002, has been
an overwhelming success story! We started with eight players and
7 years later we are now six teams with a total of 129 players.
In 2006, the Sunshine Bowling League joined Challenger Sports League. Now Challenger
Sunshine Bowling League has 70 players meeting every Wednesday from October to March in Lockport. In October 2009, bowling will expand to Medina
meeting on Tuesdays, also October through March. In September of 2007, one day of golf was added at a local par 3 course. It continues to be a fun annual event. Volleyball is played between the bowling and baseball seasons. and in the spring of 2009, basketball was experienced with hopes to continue.
Our Challenger league is open to players of all ages.
Each player has a physical or mental condition
that limits their participation in other competitive
sports programs. Games are structured to allow all players to be involved as they are able. Traditional rules are modified and the focus is always on having fun while learning the game. Players are recognized for their efforts at sports banquets. They each receive a trophy for the season. Throughout the year players enjoy pizza or Hot Dogs and a variety of other refreshments at their events. They also have a holiday party, a summer picnic, a valentine dance and a “prom” experience. The sports games are currently free except for a weekly charge for bowling and a golf fee.
We plan to expand our league by adding soccer in the near future.

benefit our athletes. For the near future in the Lockport area, we
envision a sports complex having baseball fields with a pavilion and

would be accessible year-round to all disabled athletes in Niagara, Erie
and Orleans counties.
